  1. During Windows XP install make "dummy" user as an administrator with no password

  2. Install all drivers (see also 6.1)

  3. Turn off all alerts in Security Center (Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center -> Under Resources click on “Change the way Security Center Alerts me” and uncheck all.

  4. Switch Control Panel to Classic View

  5. Install Novell Client 4.91 SP3

    1. Log in as administrator (NOT TWEclass) and then right click the N to log in as TWEclass to install SAV and Zenworks

      1. If SAV doesn't install then use a disk and manually install it

      2. Once Zenworks is installed add an exception to the Windows firewall to allow C:\Program Files\Novell\ZENworks\RemoteManagement\RMAgent\ZenRem32.exe

  6. Install Groupwise

  7. Install Office 2003  IMPORTANT:  While installing select "Choose advanced customization of applications"  and expand the "Office Tools" section.  Turn "Microsoft Office Document imaging" to "Not Available"

    1. Make sure to open and run office / excel / powerpoint incase it asks for name and initials for registration

  8. Go to Windows Updates, choose and install Microsoft Updates from Dialog box on right

    1. Install all updates but do not include hardware updates.

  1. Install Software

  1. Firefox - install, but remove from the start menu and all shortcuts

  2. Adobe Reader (Latest Version)

  3. Real Alternative

  4. Quicktime Alternative

  5. FLV Player ( VideoLAN - VLC media player)

  6. K-Lite Codec Pack

    1. Choose "Profile 8: Lots of stuff (without player)" (this option may not be available due to the version of K-Lite Codec Pack used)

  7. Microsoft Image Resizer PowerToy

  8. Flash, Java, Shockwave

  9. Install GPL Ghostscript

    1. Install the Bullzip printer

  1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

  1. Delete all shortcuts for installed software

  1. Copy the folder "Print Drivers" located in H:\Software\Fresh Image to C:\

  2. Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Components

  1. Remove: Games, MSN, Outlook Express, Windows Messenger

  1. Right-click My Computer > Properties > Remote Assistance tab > Disable Remote assistance

  1. Go to the Advanced tab > settings (of performance section) > uncheck boxes as seen in picture below

 

 

Log in to the "administrator" user to begin configuring settings

  1. In Explorer click View > Details

    1. Click Tools > Folder Options > Apply to all folders

  2. Set Internet Explorer and Firefox (Make sure IE is default browser) home page to www.woodridge.k12.oh.us

    1. Clear all history in both

  3. Right-click desktop > Properties > Screen Saver tab > None

  4. Click Power Options > Make all selections Never

  1. Right-click taskbar > Toolbars > Quick Launch

  1. Make sure Groupwise, Internet Explorer, and Show Desktop, are on the Quick Launch bar

  1. Right-click Language toolbar (microphone) > Settings > Language bar button > Uncheck Show Language Bar on Desktop

  2. Right-click start bar > Properties

  1. Uncheck "Hide inactive icons"

  2. Go to the "Start Menu" tab and click the "Customize" button

  3. In the "General" tab and "Show on Start menu" section > make sure both boxes are checked

    1. Make sure Internet Explorer is set for Internet

    2. Make sure Novell Groupwise is set for E-mail

  4. In the "Advanced" tab uncheck "Highlight newly installed programs"

  1. In the Start menu > All Programs > right-click on a folder and select "Sort by Name"

  2. Copy the BGInfo.zip file from the network to the desktop.

  1. Create a new folder called “BGInfo” in C:\Windows\system32

  2. Cut and paste BGInfo.zip there and extract it.

  3. Create a new .txt file entitled imageinfo

    1. Open imageinfo.txt and put the name of the image (DO NOT HIT ENTER FOR A NEW LINE) and save the file.

  4. Double click on BGInfo.exe to run it.

  5. Set the font to Arial 10 bold

  6. Under the Fields column click on Custom.

    1. Click on New to create a new field.

    2. Identifier should be “Image”

    3. Click the radio button that says Contents of a file

    4. For the path browse to imageinfo.txt and click ok.

  7. Make sure in the text field it looks like the following… (make note of where the second column slider is set for the width between fields)

 

 

 

  1. Go to File -> Save As and enter “bginfo”

  2. Go to start -> All Programs -> right click on the “start up” folder and go to explore

    1. Right click and select new text document and name it “bginfo.bat” (THERE SHOULD NOT BE .txt IN THE NAME)

    2. Edit the bat file and add the following line then save…

C:\WINDOWS\system32\BGInfo /ic:\WINDOWS\system32\BGInfo\bginfo.bgi /timer:0

  1. Right click on “BGInfo” folder and go to properties. Check Hidden and hit apply and make sure apply changes to this folder, subfolder, and files is selected and click ok.

  1. Set up Disk Cleanup for scheduled tasks

  1. Enable the following – Temporary Setup files, Temporary Internet files, Debug dump files, Microsoft error reporting temporary files, old CHKDSK files, temporary remote desktop files, setup log files, temporary files, webclient / publisher temporary files

  2. Make sure the following is disabled – downloaded program files, office setup files, recycle bin, compress old files, catalog files for the content indexer

  3. Set the scan to run once a week on Tuesday at 3:00pm

  1. Set up Defrag for scheduled tasks

  1. Set the scan to run Monthly at 12:00pm on the last Wednesday of each month

  1. Configure System Properties

  1. Click on the System Restore Tab (windows key + pause break) and move slide bar down to about 5%

  1. Log off administrator and onto dummy

  2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings

  1. Tools > Folder Options > "View" tab > select "Show hidden files and folders" > Apply

  2. Go into the Administrator folder > select all except "Administrator's Documents" > copy > back > go into the Default User folder > paste > select yes to all in the confirmations that pop up

  1. Log off dummy and onto administrator

  2. Start > Run > control userpasswords

  1. Create "teacher" (limited user) user account and add the regular password

  2. Create "student" (limited user) user account and add the regular password

  3. Delete “dummy” user account

  4. Copy NewSysID.exe into C:\Documents and Settings\administrator\Desktop
